1. Cal-Organic Farm

Cal-Organic introduces itself as a food and beverage company that pioneered the production of organic produce in California. It was started by the Duncan Family in 1984 in Lamont, CA, on just a quarter of an acre of land, planting lettuce alone.

The farm has since increased in acreage yearly and now produces over 65 seasonal and year-round vegetables and fruits. The plants receive special care and are only fed pure water, fertile soil, and organic manure without using chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Its owners aim to promote sustainable agriculture by farming differently and in a way that supports family values and integrity. The farm, the produce, and even the facilities exceed USDA certification standards.

3.Tomatero Organic Farm

The Tomatero Organic farm is a hidden gem in the Pajaro Valley, south of Santa Cruz and only five miles inland, off the California coast. As its name suggests, this farm primarily produces tomatoes (its name essentially means “tomato picker,” a befitting name for what they do.

The farm is dedicated to only producing organically, using beneficial insects, plants, and native hedgerows to boost the soil’s fertility. The crops are rotated all year long, and the soil gets time to rest awaiting the next planting.

You need not visit the farm to enjoy some of their produce. Tomatero attends the farmers’ markets in the greater Bay Area and supplies them to grocery stores in Santa Cruz County and the Bay Area.
