1. Rodale Institute

Rodale Institute describes its farm as the destination for agricultural inspiration. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to the organic foods movement through its extensive research, farmers’ training, and consumer education.

Rodale Institute is widely recognized as the epicenter of the modern agriculture movement and has been a global leader in regenerative natural agriculture for many decades.

J.I. Rodale founded the Institute. He was a New York entrepreneur that had struggled all his life treating different ailments. One day, he discovered that healthy soil led to healthy foods and to healthy people. He bought a rundown farm in 1940 in Pennsylvania and began experimenting with growing his food without chemicals and that became the foundation of the organic movement.

Today, the Institute works directly with farmers and helps them transition to organic farming through its specialized training programs, webinars, workshops, and events. Consumers are also taught the importance of healthy eating.

Besides training, Rodale Institute also runs a Garden Store and Visitors’ Center at its headquarters, where consumers can purchase a wide selection of kitchen and gardening tools, books, pork, specialty foods, and organic treats.

The Center opens Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 5 pm, except on Tuesday and Saturday when it closes early, at 3 pm.

In the spirit of promoting health and wellness through balanced nutrition, the farm also has healthy oils sourced from different parts of the world. It also runs a bakery that sells healthy bread made from a combination of different soaked grains and sourdough. It also stocks gluten-free goodies like gluten-free muffins, gluten-free coconut cookies, angry food cake, sprouted grain shoo-fly pie, and others.
