1. Grand Alpaca Company  

The Grand Alpaca Company is located about half a mile from Lake Michigan. They specialize in producing registered huacaya alpacas with traceable lineages, thus making it possible to maintain high-quality baby alpacas. 

They only breed the huacaya alpaca, which was first purchased by the Grand Alpaca Company’s original owners Tim and Jane Talbott, in 1984.

The company was acquired from Tim and Jane in 2012 and is now family-managed by Les and Cherish Meyette.

Northern Blessings Alpacas is a huacaya alpaca breeder which focuses on producing only high-quality alpacas with championship genetics and phenotype traits. 

The farm is located in Northern Michigan, a short drive North East of Traverse City.

3. Crystal Lake Alpaca Farm

The Crystal Lake Alpaca Farm is a small, 20-year-old alpaca farm & boutique offering full veterinary service, sales, mentoring, and breeding to its clients. The farm is located in the northwest corner of the Lower Michigan Peninsula.

This is a family-owned and family-run alpaca ranch with about 60 alpacas. 

David Nelson, one of the farm’s owners, is a doctor of veterinary medicine with over 30 years caring for small animals. 

The farm is home to National Champion, Futurity Champion, and other award-winning alpacas and color champions. The farm also holds the National Huacaya Small Breeder of the Year title for 2013, 2014 and 2015, and is the 2021 National Huacaya Reserve Small Breeder of the Year.

In 2011, their Crystal Kalin was named the Fawn Male Futurity Reserve Color Champion, while in 2021, their ELK Jacob became the Herdsire of the Year in the United States.

The farm prides itself in raising champions in a caring and loving environment. It uses its team of knowledgeable breeders to raise happy alpacas with the finest and densest fleece possible.

4. Cotton Creek Farms 

Cotton Creek Farms is located South of Traverse City in Northwestern Michigan, on the border of Thompsonville and Buckley. 

The farm deals with huacaya alpacas and offers mentoring, sales, boarding, and alpaca breeding. They also provide guided alpaca tours between the months of April and October.

The farm generally breeds registered alpacas of Peruvian descent with strong heritages, including Accoyo and Snowmass genes.

It is currently family managed by Jason, who has a background in quality control and analytics, and Rebecca, whose experience is in sales, marketing, and small business management. Their son Hunter is a natural lover of alpacas and is an active worker at the farm. Jason is a local 4-H leader in Grand Traverse County and also head of the Michigan Alpaca Association. 

They currently have over 60 ARI registered huacaya alpacas with a wide variety of pet quality alpacas.

Their herd includes their foundation animals, herd sires, and their female and male alpacas for sale.

5. Triple Diamonds Alpaca Ranch 

Triple Diamonds Alpaca Ranch started as a business in 2007 by purchasing three pregnant alpaca females (Triple Diamonds). 

It is situated in Howell countryside, with a boutique in downtown Brighton, MI, filled with luxurious alpaca clothing and accessories.

It is one of the leading alpaca farms in the Midwest and is home to the 2016 National Supreme Champion.

Each breeding decision is based on high standards of exclusive, unique bloodlines, desirable fleece traits, and conformation.
