Eastland Alpacas is in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, located between Harrisburg and Lancaster. The owners of the farm are Sue and Kevin Zurin.   

The 30-acre farm breeds and raises quality Huacaya alpacas intending to improve the genetics with each generation. 

The alpacas at the farm carry some of the top bloodlines from herds such as Accoyo, Alianza, Dracula, Caligula, Fire and Ice, Royal Fawn, and Simba. The alpacas are available in different colors and are trained from a young age to lead. 

The farm offers a wide range of services, such as alpaca sales, breeding, financing, boarding, customer support, and guidance. 

After buying alpacas from this farm, Sue and Kevin are always available on the phone to answer any questions. They are members of the Pennsylvania Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association and are happy to share their expertise.

Other than raising alpacas, the farm also has a store that stocks a diverse range of products made from alpaca fiber.

2. Quarry Critters Alpaca Ranch

Quarry Critters Alpaca Ranch is in Adams County, located between Hanover and Gettysburg. The ranch is home to a high-quality herd of alpacas registered by Alpaca Registry Inc. (ARI). 

Owners Julie and David Wysong breed and raise alpacas mainly for resale and fleece. 

Other than their Pennsylvania base, the farm also offers alpacas for sale in Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, and other states.

The farm also sells alpaca fiber in bulk and at wholesale prices directly from the ranch or online. The produced fiber is regularly sent for testing, and the farm can provide histograms upon request. 

The farm’s gift shop is open on Wednesday and Thursday from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and also on Fridays/Saturdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

3. Sugar Hollow Farm Alpacas, LLC

Sugar Hollow Farm Alpacas, LLC is a small farm located in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Kathy and Jay Brown own and run the farm, specializing in Huacaya alpacas and fiber.

Animals raised at the farm are from top bloodlines, and they provide quality fleece with fine conformation. 

Sugar Hollow personally invites visitors to inspect its yarn for crimp, density, and fineness.

One of the alpacas, Matoskah’s skin biopsy test conducted by Alpaca Consulting shows that it is one of the top four animals in the country when it comes to density and fineness.

If you’re interested in alpaca farming, you can schedule a visit to the farm and talk to Kathy and Jay and learn from their experience. They also offer a “Care Package” for each of their alpaca buyers.

Sugar Shack is their farm store. It sells Kathy’s hand-woven shawls, scarves, warm socks, baby booties, hats, dolls, and stuffed animals, all made from alpaca fiber.  

Kathy and Jay are members of PA Preferred, a state-run association that runs a marketing program to help farmers of Pennsylvania promote their products.

4. Asgard Acres Alpaca Farm, LLC

Set up in 2006, the location of Asgard Acres Alpaca Farm is around 25 miles north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The farm was named after the homeland of the Norse gods, “Asgard.” 

The owners of this 30-acres farm are Carole and Joe Rost. Carole is a retired teacher, and Joe is a Biology major with experience of working on his father’s cattle farm.

The couple began their journey with three high-quality female Huacaya alpacas; each from the top three farms in the US Mid-Atlantic region. Over the years, the number of alpacas has grown to around 40.  

Together, Carole and Joe have more than 30 years of accumulated animal husbandry skills, including successfully breeding and raising alpacas. 

Prominent herdsires at the ranch include Accoyo Principe Dorato, Casanova’s Peruvian Crown Prince, Peruvian Winchester, Snowmass XXXtreme, and Snowmass White Gold. 

Female bloodlines include Caligula, Peruvian Black Ice, Peruvian Royal Fawn, Hemingway, SA Silverado, and Victor’s Vaccoyo. 

Besides their goal of breeding top-quality alpacas, the owners also stay connected with other alpaca enthusiasts. In the recent past, the farm hosted the “Butler County 4H Alpaca Pack” sharing knowledge with local youths. 

Carole and Joe are also members of the Pennsylvania Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association and Mid-Atlantic Alpaca Association (MAPACA).

5. Kraussdale Alpacas

Kraussdale Alpacas is a small farm based in southeastern Pennsylvania, close to Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia.

The farm is owned and run by Maggie Wright. She is committed to the cause of breeding and raising excellent quality alpacas with top-notch fiber and conformation. 

The farm specializes in Huacaya females and breeding stock.

Also, the farm store has a wide range of alpaca products including sweaters, blankets, socks, gloves, toys, and books. The farm and the store are open on Saturday and Sunday at the usual hours, and no appointment is required. 

You can also attend their annual open farm event that typically takes place in November.
