The original location of the Bluebonnet Hills Alpaca Ranch is a few minutes away from northwest Houston in Waller County and Laurence & Donna Binder were the first owners.

Later, the ownership got handed over to Jim and Diana Foegelle, and Calico Creek in Cost, Texas became the new address of this ranch.

The ranch was set up in September 1997. The objective was to breed and develop a colorful herd of alpacas. The owners also aimed at genetically improving the alpacas and extracting high-quality fiber.

The first step towards that goal was buying the first five animals for the ranch. Interestingly, the breeding of female alpacas at the ranch has been a game-changer as they became famous, award-winning Huacaya herdsires from the states such as Colorado, Louisiana, Ohio, Oregon, and Texas.

For nearly 25 years, this ranch has helped many Texas alpaca ranchers set up their ranch and kick-start their own alpaca breeding business.

Just like others, if you wish to start your alpaca business or increase your herd, Bluebonnet Hills Alpaca Ranch has a perfect blueprint for you. You will experience a smooth transition as alpacas are already familiar with the Texas climate.

Contact the ranch owners to choose high-quality alpacas suitable for your business goals in the price range fitting the current market trend.

The third farm on our list is Aubrey Oaks Alpacas in Cooke County, Texas, placed between Gainesville & Whitesboro.

The ranch setting is in the greenest part of north-central Texas, an ideal model and resource for people who want to set up their own ranch. On top of it, the superior quality Alpacas will help diversify any herd.

Since 2010, the owners Debbie & Charles have been raising Texas Alpacas with some prominent and award-winning bloodlines. Their goal is to breed these animals for achieving fineness.

Besides breeding, the farm also focuses on the key fiber factors, such as structure, density, crimp, comfort, and shine. Additionally, things such as confirmation, head style, large bones, and personality are also important parts of breeding.

Debbie & Charles are happy to share their knowledge and mentor all the customers who purchase Alpacas from their ranch. They are members of the Alpaca Owners Association, TXOLAN, and Alpacas of Oklahoma.

To help potential customers learn more about breeding, the farm has a series of pages. Check Learn About Raising Alpacas.

5. DJ’s Classic Alpacas

The final one on our list is DJ’s Classic Alpacas, a small family-owned farm in Keller, TX. Owners Debbie & Jim Conkle set up the farm in 2008 when they purchased their first herd of Alpacas.

Debbie & Jim got the idea of having their own farm in 2006 after coming back from a vacation in the mountains of Northern New Mexico.

Post-vacation, when they resumed their corporate job, they realized how difficult it would be to continue that stressful routine. They wanted to be close to nature and animals. So, their dream project took its shape by setting up the farm.

Breeding and raising Alpacas is a fairly new industry in the US, and there is a keen interest in raising these gentle animals and their fleece.

DJ’s Classic Alpacas has several show-quality alpacas, along with females, herdsires, and breeding services.

Besides alpacas available for sale, the ranch also offers a range of alpaca products, such as rugs, stadium mats, table runners, alpaca felted hats, fingerless gloves, chullo hats, socks, shawls, and more.

Debbie and Jim are actively involved in spreading awareness about raising alpacas and engaging the community, and both are affiliated with ARI – Alpaca Registry, Inc., TxOLAN Alpaca Association – the regional affiliate of AOBA, and A-OK (Alpacas of Oklahoma).

The couple welcomes visitors to the farm with whom they can gladly share their knowledge about raising alpacas, fleece, and shearing. Refer to the websites’ “Farm Visits” section for more information.
