1. Alpacas of Marin

Alpacas of Marin ranch is located in the picturesque settings of Marin County on the main road towards Point Reyes National Seashore.

The owner Sandy Wallace took a different approach towards ranching alpacas, along with a unique perspective about the business of these gentle animals.

Since 2006, Sandy and his team boarded alpacas at five different ranches starting from Northwestern Oregon to Southern California. Along this journey, they learned various approaches about alpaca husbandry and sales from a range of seasoned and successful alpaca ranchers.

This ranch had even boarded its herd with iconic ranchers Jan and Dale Davis of Derwydd Alpacas, who brought immense knowledge and experience about the alpaca industry. Alpacas of Marin even got Sonia Marygold of Tanglewood Suri Alpacas as its mentor.

Sandy has the ambition to build an alpaca breeding and fiber industry in the North San Francisco Bay area.

4. Fair Winds Alpacas

Fair Winds Alpacas farm is located in the backdrop of breathtaking foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, east of Sacramento. Owners of the farm are August Anema and Bonnie Potter, who worked hard and kept dreaming of owning a farm in the twilight of their career, and this farm is the result of that long-cherished dream.

The couple spent their working years with a plan to own a farm. That dream became a reality when they returned to Northern California after retiring from the Navy and bought 5 acres of land in Auburn.

Like most other farm owners, Anema and Bonnie decided to breed and raise alpacas when they were seeking a business idea to generate income during their retirement days and began working together on their picture-perfect small land.

After getting settled, they decided to board horses and also use the land to raise livestock. Now, they have more than 50 alpacas on the farm, and also four llamas to guard them.

You can learn more about the farm and check out alpacas if you wish to invest in them. Contact the couple in advance to schedule a visit, and they will also send a free brochure explaining the financial aspects of breeding and raising Alpacas.
