Shadowood Farm is a small family-owned organic farm located in Palm City. Its owners, Sarah and Bob Fenton, began the farm in 1983 but, for the next two decades, only indulged in traditional farming.
The organic farming journey started in 2010, and the 10-acre farm has been a safe food source for the surrounding community.
Shadowood Farm is one of only two USDA-certified organic farms in Martin County and the only one that opens its doors to sell to the public. From mid-November to May, visitors can sample seasonal locally grown organic farm produce. The gates are open from Friday to Sunday, starting at 10 am.
If you’re looking to learn from the gurus or just want a place to explore your gardening hobby, you could rent some garden space on the farm and grow your own food. The Gamble Creek Farm was born out of a need to meet the locals’ food desires, which is to eat healthy organic, locally-grown food. The owner, Ed Chiles, started out in the restaurant business and realized that the quality of food served to the customers had much to do with the science of how it was grown.
As Chiles discovered the best foods were those grown through sustainable organic agriculture and aquaculture, he ventured into agriculture to meet his patrons’ desire to eat sustainably-raised organic meats, seafood, and produce.
